Steven M Shardlow took his undergraduate and master’s degrees at Oxford. A registered social worker (England), he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Kuopio, Finland. He is an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences (UK) and since 2001 has been the Chair Professor of Social Work at the University of Salford, England. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Social Work (ISI ranked) and has published 16 books and over 70 articles and book chapters. Prof. Shardlow is known internationally for his work on the development of professional knowledge in social work particularly through field education. His current research includes the following areas: knowledge for professional practice, particularly in respect of social work with children and families and older people to promote research utilisation by practitioners and policy makers; applied professional ethics; the human services workforce.
